The Buff Body of the SAG Statuette

The Screenactor’s Guild is having it’s often quite fun annual award’s ceremony on Sunday January 29th .  Winners are presented with the statue with a body so buff that winner Helen Mirren felt compelled to kiss it’s rear end when she won for Gosford Park in 2002.

The little statue, casually known as The Actor is made of Bronze and boasts a slight resemblance to the Greek God Apollo. However, it is more likely that it is a representation of Dionysus who is the God of Drama. The chiseled male holds aloft the “sad drama mask” and the “happy drama mask” and also boasts quite an enormous cod-piece to go with it’s chiseled chest and buns of steel. In fact, SAG winner for “The Office” Creed Bratton made many remarks about the statue’s butt during a recent press conference for the 2012 SAG awards.

The actual look of the statue is very Russian propaganda-like with some post-modernism thrown in. It looks like the kind of award you would expect Ayn Rand’s Howard Rourke to win in The Fountainhead. It is so tacky that it is no surprise that it is “the butt of many jokes.”  Pun intended.

A life-size version of the famous “Actor Statuette” often greets those who will take part in the ceremonies.
